Obituary of Myra Carrel Goodwin

Please share a memory of Myra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Myra Carrel Thomas Goodwin, 76, passed away December 3, 2024, at a local nursing home. She was born on May 8, 1948, the oldest child of Phillip Ray Thomas and Carrel Marie Chagnard Thomas. Myra graduated from Francis T. Nichols High School in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 1966.

Myra met her future husband, Louie, on October 19, 1963, in Doctor’s Hospital in Mobile, Alabama where he was a patient, and she was a volunteer. They were married on July 15, 1967.  Myra worked for the Bell System (AT&T) from high school to 1977. She was a member of Network for Enterprising Women. She also was a member of Southcliff Baptist Church since 1998 where she was a choir member for many years and loved being in the Singing Christmas Tree concerts. Myra loved her family dearly and she loved music which she passed on to our children. She loved taking trips with Apryl, some overnight, some longer while Dad stayed home to work and take care of our pups. She never met a stranger and loved talking with people.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Phillip R. Thomas and Carrel Marie Thomas.

Her survivors include her loving and devoted husband, Louie; children, Chris (Trudy), Eric (Angela) and Apryl; and grandchildren, Corey, and Brandon; sisters Phillis Westcott, Shiela Thomas, and brother Michael Thomas; many aunts, uncles and cousins scattered throughout Louisiana and Texas.
