Q: How did you meet Ross?
A: Ross and I began our lifelong creative partnership 28 years ago at EPCC. Ross had returned from Iraq and began his academic career. He looked like a character stepping out of the Dunesbury Comic Strip. Of course I was drawn in by his wit and intelligent conversations. We soon discovered we both wanted an honors project. Ah ha, let's begin a poetry group and enlist James Gonzales as our beloved sponsor. The creative juices have flowed ever since that fateful time in our lives.

i carry your heart with me
i carry your heart with me (i carry it in
my heart) i am never without it (anywhere
i go you go, my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Dr. Teller, you are one of the most interesting people I ever had the pleasure to know. I have no doubt you will be one of the brightest stars in the sky. Thank you for everything and rest as peacefully as you want.

He was a library in a man’s skin,
pages filled with wisdom, sarcasm, and stories,
the kind of guy who’d roll his eyes
and sigh like a grumpy old cat,
but with a heart that could light up a room,
a beacon in the fog of everyday noise.
Ross, my assistant principal,
the architect of virtual dreams,
who could bridge the gap
between pixels and real talk,
the one who knew how to listen
when the world felt heavy,
when the weight of it all
threatened to crush our spirits.
He wore grumpiness like a badge,
a deflector of expectations,
but beneath that furrowed brow,
a softness brewed,
a kindness that seeped through
in the way he laughed,
in the way he shared tales
of his alter ego, Floyd—
a white trash legend
with a heart of gold.
And then there was Darlene,
my own alter ego,
the one he teased me about,
two misfits in a world of normalcy,
laughter echoing in the hallways,
a friendship forged in shared sarcasm
and moments of pure joy.
But then, just like that,
the universe shifted,
and you were gone—
unexpected, uninvited,
leaving a silence that screamed,
a void that can’t be filled,
a heart stopped mid-beat
like a book left open,
the last page unturned.
I miss you, Ross,
the way you read life like a novel,
the way you taught us
to embrace the messy,
to find beauty in chaos,
to laugh at ourselves
and to wear our hearts
like badges of honor,
even when the world felt heavy.
You were more than an assistant principal,
more than a friend;
you were a lesson in being real,
a reminder that beneath grumpiness
is a treasure trove of love,
the kind of love that whispers,
“Hey, I see you. I get you.”
So here’s to you, my grumpy heart,
my confidant, my comic relief,
the laughter I carry in my pocket,
the lessons wrapped in wit.
I’ll keep your spirit alive,
in every sarcastic remark,
in every story shared,
in every moment that makes me smile.
Because friendship like ours?
It doesn’t just fade;
it transforms,
it lingers in the laughter,
in the memories we built,
and I will carry you with me,
always,
for you are the best kind of unfinished story,
the one that never truly ends.

Dr. Teller was a true inspiration to all he worked with. He was always the first to offer help and to problem solve until a solution was found and successful outcome achieved. He will live forever in our hearts and memories.

Rest in peace, Dr. Teller. Thank you for being the weird kids' refuge, and a light in the dark for so many.. You gave so many students hope and a sense of belonging when they felt they had no place to go. Your humor was drier than those chicken patties served at lunch, and you were always brutally honest, but your passion, dedication to your students, and love for your profession were always clear. Thanks for always being you, and thanks for always letting kids be themselves. I'd ditch my graduation if it meant spending just one more summer with you reorganizing the library. Rest easy and let's trade book recommendations in the next life <3 God bless weird librarians

Our family would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of Ross Teller. Ross loved his children with everything he had. He was intelligent, well-read, and creative. His humor was wry and stinging, but under all the gruff and prickle was a compassionate regard for others. He will be missed.

An absolute legend. You were a mentor, a supporter and one of the coolest dudes I ever had the privilege to work with. Thank you for being who you were and impacting all of us with your wit and your knowledge. Rock on in the afterlife.
