Obituary of Judy Ann Hostetter

Please share a memory of Judy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Judy Ann Hostetter was born February 23, 1940 in Clinton, Indiana and went to be with the Lord on Sunday, April 5, 2020 at the age of 80. She was born to James and Annabel Gillian, the only girl of four children. She is the first of her siblings to pass. Judy grew up in Indiana and Kansas and graduated from Shawnee Mission High School in Kansas. She then attended Baker University for her undergraduate degree and Florida State University for her Masters Degree in Library Science. She was married in 1963 after graduate school and was a stay at home mom to three children until her husband died suddenly in 1976. Judy then went to work part time cataloging books for the South Carolina State Library, Columbia College and the University of South Carolina. After her children left the house, she worked full time for the Presbyterian Homes of South Carolina in various support roles. When she retired, she moved to Maryland to live with her daughter and be close to her grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, John Dorsey Hostetter and survived by her children of whom she was very proud, sons John Bagby Hostetter and Robert James Hostetter and daughter Susan Lynn Wheeler. Her grandchildren, Conall, Brigit and Ronan, with whom she had a close relationship, surely miss their beloved “Grandmom”. Judy loved sewing, needlework, crafts, classical music, history, science and the weather. She had a passion for learning and applied that to everything she did in life. She studied the bible, taught Sunday school, sang with her church choir and became accomplished at playing handbells. Most recently, despite her struggles with Parkinson’s disease, Judy was able to play bells and take up painting with her friends at the Vantage Independent Living Community in Fort Worth, Texas. We will remember Judy through her humor and kind spirit that touched all of our lives She is greatly loved by those she left behind and we rejoice that she is free from struggle and now a bright Angel in Heaven standing beside the loved ones who have passed before her. Judy was always a friend to animals and a lifelong supporter of animal charities and would, in lieu of flowers, be honored by a donation to the National Humane Society - https://www.nationalhumane.com/
