Evelyn Mae Winters Avant 101, passed away on Monday, April 3, 2017 in Fort Worth, TX after a short illness.
Visitation: 10:00 A.M. Friday, April 7, 2017 at Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 6009 Wedgwood Drive, Fort Worth, TX.
Funeral Mass: 12:00 Noon at the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 3601 Altamesa Blvd. Fort Worth, TX on Friday, April 7.
Memorials: The family requests any memorials be donated to the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church Building Fund.
Evelyn was born in St. Louis, MO on Valentine’s Day in 1916. She celebrated her 101st birthday on Valentine’s Day in Fort Worth, TX in 2017. At her birthday party, she enjoyed being with her relatives and friends and eating some of her ice cream and cake. She also enjoyed dancing with her son.
Evelyn married Arthur Avant in St. Louis in 1936. The couple then moved to Chicago where they resided for many years. They became the proud parents in Chicago of six children, three girls and three boys. During the formative years of the lives of her children, Evelyn was a constant homemaker.
Evelyn was an active member of the Holy Angels and St. Columbanus Catholic Churches in Chicago, as well as the Prince of Peace Church in San Antonio, and the St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Fort Worth.
After her children became adults, and Arthur retired from US Government Service, the couple moved from the cold winters of Chicago to San Antonio, TX. In her later years, Evelyn moved to Fort Worth and resided in the Vantage Retirement Village.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband Arthur and her sons Ralph and Arnold.
Survivors: Evelyn leaves behind son Arthur Howard Avant, Jr. and his wife Blanca, daughters Angela Avant, Jo Ann Garrett, and Constance Wilson and her husband Dr. Laval Wilson.
Evelyn is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren, and a number of other relatives and countless friends.
