Obituary of Janie York

Please share a memory of Janie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Janie York, 67, was called home by our Lord and Savior on Monday, February 27, 2017. Janie was born on July 1, 1949 in Greenville, Texas. She was the second of three children. Janie met the one and only love of her life, Steve York, and they married January, 13, 1968. Janie made beautiful wedding cakes, owned a cleaning service, and eventually went on to help build and manage York's Wrecker Service in Red Oak with her husband. But Janie was not known for her work. Her only goal in life was to be a dedicated wife and an extraordinary mom. Her kids remember a mom that sacrificed constantly for them: always being there to make them feel better, often making multiple dinners to ensure everyone got what they wanted to eat, doing all the housework, occasionally making their clothes, and even giving them haircuts, all while working to help make ends meet financially. However, Janie was more than a proud wife, mom, and granny. She loved 50’s music, especially Elvis, and she owned race trucks with her husband. Janie even raced in the “Powder Puff” class and was known as the first woman to drive a race truck through the mud pit in Red Oak. She truly devoted her life to her family and spent her time doing everything she could to show her love for them. She will be deeply missed but leaves her children as her legacy. Janie was preceded in death by her husband Steve York, her parents Ardolph and Margaret Cawthon, and her brother, Allen Butler. Janie was a loving and gracious wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend and is survived by her two sons, Carl York, Raymond York and his fiancé, Jackie; daughter, Stacey White and her husband Billy; grandchildren, Kameron White, Gavin Smith, Hailey York and Abby White; sister, Vicki Harris and her husband Floyd, birth-father, Arlen Butler and his wife Trevelyn, and extended family and friends.
