Obituary of Janet Elaine Barker
Please share a memory of Janet to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my beloved wife, Jan Barker, on Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2016.
In accordance with Jan's wishes no services are planned. A reception celebrating Jan's life will be held at a later date.
Memorials: Remembrances may be sent to the Susan G Koman FW, 2216 Green Oaks Road, Fort Worth, Texas, 76116; or ALS Association, 2251 Chenault, Carrollton, Texas, 75006; or a charity of your choice.
Jan was born Sept. 7, 1938, in Washington, D.C., to James J and Marjorie Tidwell. Upon completion of her studies at George Washington University, she joined American Airlines as a flight attendant based in New York. In 1983 she transferred to DFW and we married July 7, 1984. After retiring from American in 2004, she spent her time working in her garden, playing with our dogs and traveling with me to Europe and accompanying me on business trips.
She possessed great strength and a very strong will.
Survivors: Jan is survived by her loving husband, Bruce; brother, James J. Tidwell and wife, Honore'; my children, Pamela Hertel and husband, Mark, Alison Wise and husband, Dave, DeeDee Wix and husband, Dr. Kurtt Wix; grandchildren, Hannah and Skylar Hertel, Nicholas Wise, Kurtt Wix II and Fred Wix, Mary Wix, Allyson Wix Anderson and husband Richard W. Anderson, III, Esq.; and the many friends she made while flying.
I wish to thank all the nursing staff at Harris Hospital and the Heart Center for their wonderful care over these few months and the staff of VITAS Hospice at Baylor All Saints. Also a very special thanks to Jan's doctors, Allan Kelly, Dar Shah and Amir Malik.
