Obituary of Carol Ann Hoy Monico

After fighting breast cancer for more than 6 years, Carol Ann Hoy Monico, 67, fell asleep in the Lord on June 1, 2016 at her daughter's home in Burleson, Texas. She was born on January 24, 1949 in Lynwood, California to Vernon and Betty Barr Hoy. Carol grew up in Norwalk, California. She graduated from Norwalk High School in Norwalk, California in 1967. She joined the Army in 1972 and served for over 8 years. She served during the end of the Vietnam War and was the recipient of medals such as the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. She was honorably discharged in 1980, achieving the rank of Sergeant. She held many jobs throughout the years, including working for Sears, the Corp of Engineers, bus driver for the Winnsboro public school system, piece worker at Kendon, cashier at Wal-Mart, putting circuit boards together at Caddax, and finally working 13 years as a cashier for Lowe's until she retired. Carol married Carl Leon Monico on May 21, 1980 in Norwalk, California. They were happily married for 23 years. Carol was a member of the Joshua Seventh-day Adventist Church in Joshua, Texas. She enjoyed machine embroidery, coloring, and spending time with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren. Carol was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Betty Hoy, and her husband Carl Monico. Carol is survived by her daughter, Sarah (Rodney) Stowell of Burleson, TX; her sister Barbara (Joe) Magie of San Marcos, CA: her sister Ruby (Ed) Naulty of Apple Valley, CA; her grandchildren Andrew, Ann, Aerik, and Aeron; and her nephews, nieces, and other relatives. Carol will be interred at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery with a graveside service at 2:00 PM, Friday, June 10, 2016. A memorial service will be held at the Joshua Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1912 Conveyor Dr., Cleburne, TX 76033 at 5:30 PM on June 18, 2016. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Joshua Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1912 Conveyor Dr., Cleburne, TX 76033, or to your local area food bank.
