Lawrence E “Crab” Hoffman, 95, of West Palm Beach, Tallahassee, and St. Augustine, Florida passed away on April 18, 2016. His last battle ended in Dallas, Texas at the Dallas VA Hospital Charlie Company Hospice Unit with his Son Rusty and his Daughter-in-Law Karen by his side. Ed graduated from Palm Beach High School in 1939 with his sweetheart and previously deceased (1976) Wife of 32 years, Louise Bound Hoffman. He is survived by his Sons, Lawrence E. “Redeye” Hoffman Jr. of West Palm Beach, John D. “Rusty” Hoffman and his Wife Karen of Arlington Texas, Grandson Albert W. “AW” and his Mother Judy Hoffman of West Palm Beach. He retired as Deputy Chief from the City of West Palm Beach Florida in 1970. He was involved as President of the Professional Firefighters of Florida and Lobbyist for over 20 years with the PFFF, which later became the Florida Professional Firefighters (FPF). Then he lobbied for the Florida Police Benevolent Association (PBA) for another 30 years. During his 50+ years lobbying he was awarded many honors and resolutions from the many governors and the Full Florida Legislatures, including being named “Dean of Lobbying Corps”. Before World War II he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and became a Turret Gunner on Grumman TBF Avenger Dive Bombers with the Cactus Air Force at Henderson Field Guadalcanal. Ed was awarded numerous medals and citations for his service. He was called to action again during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Marine Corps League and a lifetime member of the BPOE Elks Club. There will be a Celebration of Life on May 28, 2016 at The Shores Golf Course Clubhouse at 707 Shores Blvd, St. Augustine, FL 32086 at 1PM. His ashes will be scattered, alongside his wife Louise at Sebastian Inlet in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to the Wounded Warriors Project. The Family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of the angels at the Dallas VA Charlie Company Hospice Unit.
