Obituary of Garrett Austin Goertz

Please share a memory of Garrett to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Garrett Austin Goertz was born Sept 8th 1998 to David and Deanna Goertz of Keller,TX. Garrett walked into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on April 19th, 2016 at the age of 17. Garrett was preceded in death by his father, David Goertz of Keller,TX; paternal grandparents, Milton and Marion Goertz of Bastrop,TX; grandparents Garry and Bobbie Hagen of Austin,TX; maternal great-grandparents, John and Kathryn Tate of Southlake,TX, and his great-grandfather Kenneth Meek of North Richland Hills,TX. Garrett is survived by his mother Deanna Goertz and his sister Mikayla of Keller,TX; grandparents Tony and Beverly Tate of Southlake,TX, great-grandmother, Dorothy Meek and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Sharing his father’s love of sports, Garrett grew up playing soccer at an early age. His love of competition led him to his most recent passion as a member of the prestigious Keller High school band, recently competing in multiple competitions across the country. While known for his love of music, Garrett was excited about continuing his music education his senior year of high school and into college as a music production major. He attended Cross Timbers Community Church of Keller, TX where he was actively involved in the youth group as a student leader. Following in the Godly footsteps of his family, Garrett’s acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Savior on April 15th, 2012 helped lead his father to Christ just weeks later. God’s plan was graciously revealed when Garrett’s father passed away wearing the t-shirt he was baptized in simply saying, “I Have Decided”, a decision he was ultimately led to because of his son, Garrett. He was known for his big heart and love of children (affectionately nicknamed, “The Baby Whisperer”) who were always attracted to him like magnets. He could often be found helping in the church nursery on Sunday mornings or disappearing with his many cousins at family gatherings. Each and every cousin admired and adored him and could be found hanging on his arms and legs which is exactly where Garrett wanted them. This attraction didn’t stop with family, as his many close friends would quickly attest. He lit up the room with his quick wit, thoughtfulness, great sense of humor, and kind heart. He will be missed by all who knew him. If you would like to help the Goertz family, a GoFundMe account has been created in Garrett’s honor. www.gofundme.com/inmemoryofgarrett Public visitation from 12:00 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. and service from 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. Saturday will be held at Cross Timbers Community Church located at 1119 Highway 377 South, Argyle, TX 76226 Funeral procession to Bluebonnet Cemetery in Colleyville immediately following.
