Obituary of Jason David Hamel

Please share a memory of Jason to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Jason David Hamel, 65, passed away on November 22, 2024. Born in Salina, Kansas, to Janet and David Hamel, Jason spent his early childhood years in Marquette before moving to Augusta, Kansas, where he graduated from Bluestem High School. It was there he met Diane, his future wife, and they began dating for two years before life took them in different directions.

Jason held a variety of jobs throughout his life, including a memorable stint on a shrimp boat, where he was often seasick but persevered. He later worked at Fleming Foods, Albertsons, and eventually retired in January 2024 as a machinist for Union Pacific Railroad.

Outside of work, Jason was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to hunt, and one memorable weekend, he shot four deer which made his wife furious at the time. Fishing with friends also brought him great joy, providing both relaxation and camaraderie.

Jason’s love story with Diane was a journey that spanned decades. After reconnecting in October 2011 through mutual friends from school, the couple married in October of 2013.

Jason was preceded in death by his parents, Janet and David Hamel.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Diane; his stepchildren, Ashley and her husband Jon, and Chase and his wife Paige; and baby Wells Ten Eyck.
