Obituary of Fikry M. Rufail

Please share a memory of Fikry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

A private funeral service for Fikry "Victor" Rufail, 79, of Lucas, will be held Monday, July 1, 2024, at St. Philopateer Coptic Orthodox Church. Interment will follow at Rolling Oaks Memorial Center.

Mr. Rufail was born July 23, 1944, in Cairo, Egypt, to the late Lydia and Megalla Rufail, and died Tuesday, June 25, 2024, after battling a lengthy illness.

After earning his bachelor's degree in chemistry from Cairo University in 1965, he began working as an applied chemist specializing in air pollution in Cairo before immigrating to the U.S in 1970 to continue his career and education.

While pursuing his master's degree at the University of Minnesota, his love for chemistry led him from the lab into the kitchen as he developed a strong interest in hospitality, specifically in food and beverage and hotel management. He quickly rose through the leadership ranks in the hotel industry before becoming an entrepreneur and opening two fine dining restaurants of his own. He eventually retired as a civilian leader with the U.S. Army's Family and Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (FMWR) division at Fort Jackson in Columbia, South Carolina.

Victor was a proud dual citizen of the U.S. and Egypt. He previously served in many community and civic organizations, including his local Rotary Club chapters and Chambers of Commerce. He also previously served as President of Angelina County’s Hotel and Motel Association in East Texas, and as a deacon in his church.

Victor will always be remembered for his endless love and pride for his family, as well as his generosity, charisma, and the ability to captivate anyone with his infectious smile.

He loved to travel, cook, and entertain. He also had a deep appreciation for music, enjoying everything from classical music to Egyptian ballads to hits of the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He enjoyed keeping up with news and current events, exploring history, and reading. Victor also possessed a competitive spirit. His athleticism, curiosity, and ability to quickly learn new skills led him to enjoy a variety of sports over the years, including swimming, tennis, racquetball, golf, and soccer. He also loved exploring the outdoors and enjoyed camping and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Tawfik and Nessim. He is survived by his devoted wife of 50 years, Dr. Marcil Rufail, daughter Suzy Chiaramonte (Perry), sons Michael (Hannah) and Mark (Charlotte), a granddaughter and three grandsons, sister, Dmiana "Soheir" Rufail, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Philopateer Coptic Orthodox Church, 1450 East Campbell Road, Richardson, TX 75081.
