Obituary of Buford C. Curtis, Jr.
Buford Christopher Curtis Jr, known by his friends and family as Chris, passed away peacefully from natural causes on December 29, 2023, at the age of 75, at his home in Ft. Worth, Texas. Chris was lovingly surrounded at his bedside by his wife, Linda; his son, Tate; and his sister, Lisa, along with her husband, Russell. Chris will be laid to rest at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, January 19, at 11:30 am. Afterward, the funeral reception will be held at the family's home.
Chris was born in Huntsville, Texas, on May 11, 1948, to Buford Clarence Curtis and Mary Gervase Barnett Curtis. His older sister, Michelle, was also born in Huntsville, Texas. The Curtis family moved to Ft. Worth, Texas by 1950, where Chris' siblings Bobby, Lisa, Sidney, and Kate were born and raised at 3812 Lafayette.
Chris enjoyed sharing his memories from Nolan and Arlington Heights High School, where he played football, baseball, and ran track. Before being drafted into the army in May 1971, he attended the University of Texas at Arlington. While in the army, Chris earned the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Sharp Shooter Badge M-16. Chris was stationed in Okinawa, San Joaquin Army Depot in Tracey, California, Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, and then concluded his army career at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He met and married his wife, Linda Gail Sneed, on March 3, 1974. He had his son, Tate Tyson Curtis, at Fort Sam Houston on August 20, 1974, and his daughter, Diana Marie Curtis, on January 6, 1976, at Fort Bragg. Chris moved his family back to Texas, where he resided for the remainder of his life.
Chris grew up working in the print shop with his father. In the army, he learned the optician dispensing trade. Later in life, he drove a truck for DART, where he enjoyed traveling the county.
Chris is preceded in death by his mother, Mary; his father, BC; and his sister, Kate. Chris is survived by his wife, Linda; son, Tate; and daughter, Diana, along with her husband, Peter Kispert, and their children, Mackenzie, Josilyn, and Quintin; and by his siblings Michele, Bobby, Lisa, and Sidney.
