Obituary of Virgina Bradfield
Virginia Bradfield of Fort Worth Texas passed away on November 30, 2023 at the age of 93.
She remained vibrant, active, and engaged with family, community, church, and friends for her entire life.
She was born in Tenaha, Texas in 1930 and lived in several southeast Texas communities in her early life. She graduated high school in Sealy, Texas at the age of 16 and attended Blinn College in Brenhan, Tx. and the University of Texas at Austin.
In 1950 she and Ganey Bradfield were married and moved to Fort Worth, Texas where they settled and raised a family with two children, David Bradfield, and Nancy Barnhill. They remained in Fort Worth where Ganey was an aeronautical engineer at General Dynamics, now Lockheed/Martin, for his entire career. She has six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
First United Methodist Church was central to the family and Virginia was an active member in the Ruth Circle of the United Methodist Women and The Inquirers Sunday School Class. She also was a member of the Fort Worth Women’s Club where she participated in the Cadmean Club and served as President several times. The Rejebian Book Club as well as regular lunch dates with friends were also favorite activities. In addition to these groups she met almost daily with an informal circle of friends that walked at Hulen Mall. This diverse group of people support each other in caring ways that form the village so vital a community.
Virginia was an active seamstress, sewing dresses, costumes, garments of all kinds, purses, and during the pandemic, cloth masks. All of this was done for family, friends, and strangers in the community.
She will always be remembered as a loving mother not only to her own children, but also for the support she provided to other family members, extended family friends, and neighbors. She was known to offer comfort to those in distress saying, “This too shall pass.”
Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Ganey, and is survived by her son, David Bradfield, daughter Nancy Barnhill, six grandchildren, Ianto West, Hillary Bradfield, Meredith Bradfield, Jeffrey Barnhill, Mathew Barnhill, Timothy Barnhill, and seven great grandchildren.
Her memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, December 7, at First United Methodist Church Chapel, 800 W 5th St, Fort Worth. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the First United Methodist Church of Fort Worth, 800 W. 5th St., Fort Worth, Tx. 76102, or to a charity of your choice.
