Obituary of Alice Jean Echols Turner- Jackson

Alice J. Turner-Jackson, 80, of Fort Worth Texas, passed away suddenly on November 25th, 2023, at a local hospital.

Mrs. Jackson was born May 2, 1943, in Mexia Texas, to Malissie and Edward Echols.

She attended Dunbar High School in Mexia Texas and graduated in 1961. She married first husband, Warren T. Turner Sr., and they had one son, Warren T. Turner Jr.

Alice went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science Nursing Degree from Texas Christian University and later her Master of Science Nursing Degree from Amber University.

Alice started her career as a surgical nurse at St Joseph hospital in Fort Worth Texas. She then went on to work for the Fort Worth Independent School District as a school nurse and moved through several positions until she was appointed the Director of Health Services for the School District. By the time she retired, in 2022, her career with the Fort Worth Independent School District spanned over 42 years.

Her hobbies and interests included family and especially her pets. She even took the job of caretaker of several pets that her son brought home over the years.

Alice also always had a special love of thrifting, antiquing, garage and estate sales. While some saw trash, Alice saw treasure, and always reviled in the uniqueness and history of items.

After the death of her first husband in 1989, Alice married Van Jackson in 1995. 

She was preceded in death by: Mother and father; sister, Ruby L. Shaw; brothers, L.G. Echols, Joe W. Echols, and Clyde Echols.

Mrs. Jackson is survived by her husband, Van V. Jackson; son, Warren T. 'Terry’ Turner Jr.;  stepsons, Rommel Jackson (Sonya), and Kevin Dedmon; sister, Ruby Thomas; five step-grandchildren; five step-great grandchildren; nephews, Richard Echols (Valda) and Willie C. Echols (Anita); nieces, Betty James (Robert) and Sharon Ross (Parris); niece in law, Sandra Hale; sister in law, Shirley Stewart-Blue (Mack) and family; brother in law, Lawrence Jackson (Mary) and family. eight grandnieces; three grand nephews; four great nieces; nine great nephews; one great-great niece; and other relatives and dear friends.
