Virginia Dresser McKenzie passed away on Monday October 6th 2014 in her home.
She was born in Gainesville Texas on Dec 15, 1935 to Hazel Lee Melton Dresser and Dezmon John Dresser. She graduated from Gainesville High School, Cooke County Junior College and North Texas State University. She completed graduate studies at North Texas State University and the University of Arkansas.
She began her teaching career in Denton at North Texas State and the moved to Weatherford to begin teaching at Weatherford High School. She also held faculty positions at Texas Wesleyan College, Northwest Missouri State College, and Fort Worth County Day School.
She was a founding member of the Faculty of Tarrant County Junior College and served the college as Chairman of the Department of Office Occupations. Virginia's expertise was the field Business Education, having participated in the evolution of the discipline from the mid 1950's thru her retirement from teaching in 1998, completing 42 years in the classroom. She held many leadership positions in National Business Education organizations, including President of the MPBEA. In addition, she served as an educational consultant and edited many textbooks in her field.
She is survived by her son, Roy Kenneth McKenzie, Jr and his wife Julie of New York and Rogers AR. Daughter Karen Susan McKenzie of Fort Worth. Six Grandchildren; Roy Kenneth (Trey) McKenzie, III of Arlington VA, John Brittain McKenzie of Washington, DC , Kelly Michelle Reese of Fort Worth, a student at Texas A& M, Kaydee McKenzie Reese of Fort Worth, a student at Texas A&M, James Grant McKenzie of Rogers AR a student at Subiaco Academy and Matthew Connor McKenzie of Rogers AR also a student a Subiaco. A brother John Anthony Dresser and his wife Nancy of Gainesville, TX . And a previously deceased brother Raymond Eldon Dresser.
Graveside service will be held at Greenwood cemetery on Friday Oct 10 at 9 am.
