Obituary of Judith Brunn
Judith “Judy” Brunn, age 91, passed away on June 23, 2023, from complications of ovarian cancer. Judy was born in Plymouth County, Iowa to Nis and Emma Kloster during the Depression, and became the elder sister to five siblings. She attended school in Fredonia Township, and was the Salutatorian for Le Mars, Iowa’s High School Class of 1950. After graduation, Judy worked in a bank for a year to save money to attend Nebraska Teacher’s College (now Wayne State College) the next year. Judy then taught grades 1 to 8 in a single-room schoolhouse in South Dakota before moving to Omaha, Nebraska. While there, she graduated from the University of Omaha (now the University of Nebraska – Omaha) and married Rev. Alvin Brunn, her husband of almost 59 years. They served Presbyterian churches in Omaha, Minnesota, Germany, Oklahoma, and Texas while raising their four children. The family visited relatives and camped in the summers, seeing much of the U.S. together.
The family moved to Fort Worth in 1977, where Judy taught math at Wedgewood Middle School for many years. In retirement, Judy and Al enjoyed time with their children and grandchildren, as well as extensive travels throughout the U.S. and the world.
Judy is predeceased by her husband, Al, and her siblings: Roger, Gilbert, Marilyn, and Harriet (infant). She is survived by her children, Lisa Gossett (Tom), Mark, Paul, and Heather Hoffman (Brian), and her grandchildren, Nicole, Karen, Sarah, Rachel, Megan, Alexander and Jessica. They all appreciate the love, values, and experiences that Judy and Al shared with them. Judy also is survived by two sisters, Sharon Sumners and Twylla Miller (Tom), two sisters-in-law, Sherry Kloster and Jayne Kloster, and numerous other relatives and friends.
