Since I was an adolescent I was always greeted with hugs and smiles in the Cornish home. I had the honor to spend more time with Sandra over the past year. My fondest memories include sharing lemon blueberry cake from West at the kitchen table and listening to Sandra share memories about trips with the kids and life in Wedgwood in the 60s. I’ll never forget her sense of humor, her fondness for my dog Caesar, and the night we danced in her bedroom. Rest in Peace Beautiful Lady - you deserve it.

As I write this I must first apologize Aunt Sandra - I know you would not approve of being the subject of this writing as you spent your entire life flying under the radar and never wanting to be the center of attention. I’m sorry, but for once you are in the spotlight.
I’ll keep it short just as I’m sure you would instruct.
As my Aunt, you were my Mom’s sister. For me, you seemed like royalty and next in line right behind my Mom. So, right from the start you had a special place in my heart. Then, faster than a Texas gunslinger I’m the nephew of 2 of the coolest people on the planet Aunt Sandra & Uncle Dan from Texas. The rest is history.
Yes, you became a Texas girl, but you also kept that Chicago city girl edge. You were the perfect combination of Grandpa Burm’s adventurous spirit along with your Mom Gertrude’s elegance & kindness.
I so admired the way you quietly marched through life & lived with no regrets. No matter the ups and downs you remained fair & balanced. A constant force of strength with just the right amount of compassion.
Your dry sense of humor always kept me smiling & your support for me was never ending. I especially respected how you chose your words carefully & led by example. Sort of like “slow & steady wins the race”.
Through the miles & years it never seemed like you were far away. You always managed a way to come back for yearly visits. Plus, our trips visiting “ya’ll” are some of the best memories of my life. It was such a party visiting you & Uncle Dan, Linda, David, Kathy & Barbara. I’ve also enjoyed the stories my Mom has shared about your younger days together. You both were different but your bond was undeniable. Marilyn always seemed extra happy when you were around.
I know you are in a much better place now being reunited with Uncle Dan, Grandma & Grandpa. Yet, I’m selfishly sad that I won’t see or hear you anymore, but I know you would comfort me by saying “IT IS WHAT IT IS!”.
You made life look easy Aunt Sandra.
You made loving you even easier!

Sandra was such a special lady. She was always welcoming and had a warm smile. She made us feel like part of her family.
We'll be forever grateful for the fond memories of fishing stories and our fun times on Lake Granbury.
And, I will never forget how she took the time out from her busy schedule preparing Thanksgiving dinner to teach me how to make Yorkshire pudding. It was so yummy!
You are loved, and we will miss you.
