Shirley Janet (née Pierce) Rice passed away peacefully on March 4, 2023 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was the daughter of the late Earl James and Fern (Schmidt) Pierce and the beloved wife of the late Roger F. Rice. She was the loving mother of Roger B.P. (Lynda) Rice, Nancy Rice, and Jim (Mimi) Rice. She is survived by her sister, Donna Hansen. She was the loving "Meema" of 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter.

Shirley was born in Davenport, Iowa on June 21, 1922. In her early years of marriage she, Roger, and their children lived in Iowa and Canada before settling in Richardson, Texas, where they raised their children and resided until 2012.

Reading, music, dancing and food were among her great passions. She was a world traveler, a first-class bridge player, a great cook, and a good listener.

In retirement, she and Roger found a large group of friends in South Padre where they wintered for twenty years. Shirley loved making new friends, socializing, walking on the beach and flying kites. In 2012 she moved to the Stayton and began another chapter of her life. She embraced and was embraced by the Stayton community. She enjoyed the activities and more importantly, the camaraderie that the Stayton offered.

Shirley loved spending time with friends of all ages and with her family. She loved dinners, celebrations and parties. Her 100th birthday brought the family together to celebrate her life with her favorite Tex-Mex and margaritas. She had the ability to make all those around her feel special and loved and her life lesson was to embrace life in the moment. The family is planning a private memorial service.
