Obituary of Faye Branson

Faye Branson, of Fort Worth, TX, formerly of Beckley, passed away Saturday, September 19, 2015 in Fort Worth, 9 days shy of her 90th birthday. Born Sept 28, 1925 in Princeton, Mercer County, W. Va., she was the daughter of James Oswald Bird and Ella M (Wheeler) Bird. Faye was the loving wife of W.R. (Bill) Branson for 49 years before his death in April 1993, and a wonderful, devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother to her family, whom she dearly loved.
Faye spent her early years in Berwind; graduated as Valedictorian from Big Creek High School in War, class of 1943. She was also Valedictorian of her class at Berwind Jr. High.
Faye and Bill moved to Beckley in 1957, and she lived there until moving to The Villages at Graystone in 2007, then to Fort Worth, TX to be near her son in May of this year. She was an active member of First United Methodist Church, Pathfinder Sunday School class and the Sarah Circle. She retired in 1988 as a legal secretary from the firm of File, Payne, Scherer and Brown. She also served as Deputy County Clerk for Raleigh County for several years. She was active for decades in Eastern Star.
Faye was predeceased by her parents; her loving husband; brother, Paul K. Bird; and sisters, Evelyn Bird Canterbury and Clarice Bird Cook.
Those left to cherish her memory and who brought so much joy and happiness throughout her life include her son: Terry Branson of Benbrook, TX, Granddaughters: Melissa Bailey and husband Clayton of Heath, TX and Laura Romero and husband Richie of Austin, TX, Great-grandchildren: Samuel and Julia Bailey, and Cameron and Brooklyn Romero, as well as many nieces, nephews and a hosts of dear and special friends.
Visitation: 10:00 AM - 12 Noon, Thursday, September 24th at Melton's Mortuary, and services will immediately follow at Noon.
Interment will be at 4:00 PM in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows, VA.
