Obituary of Allen Orlando Vandervoort

Allen Orlando Vandervoort passed away Monday, October 18, 2021, in Keene, Texas. Allen was born on October 3, 1937, in North Branch, Michigan to Arthur Sylvester Vandervoort and Luella Skinner Vandervoort. He was the Great Grandson of the late Comrade Orlando LeValley of Fairgrove, Michigan. Allen was the third child of 8 children. In 1946 the family moved from Bay City, Michigan to Texas and settled in a small community called Rendon in Burleson, Texas. Allen Vandervoort married Corene Ward from Blum, Texas on June 30, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Burleson, Texas. They celebrated 61 years of marriage until her death on Christmas Day December 25, 2017. Allen and Corene had 7 children Donna Corene Vandervoort, Linda Carol Vandervoort, Karen Alene Vandervoort, Jerry Allen Vandervoort, Laurie Ann Vandervoort, Angela Ellen Vandervoort, and Brenda Kay Vandervoort. Allen supported his family working on the Rex Bullard Dairy in Blum, Texas for several years as the Dairy Hand. He was known as the Best Dairy Hand in Hill County. In 1973 the family moved to Cleburne, Texas where Allen was employed as the Janitor for the Coleman Elementary School. His final employment was with Pengo in Everman, Texas as the Head Janitor. Allen and Corene Vandervoort with their children attended Woodrow Baptist Church in Covington, Texas where they met the Lord in 1972 and were baptized at Larke Whitney, Texas by Pastor Jimmy Thompkins. In 1977 Allen and Corene started attending and became members of the Westhill Church of Christ in Cleburne, Texas. Precious memories of the special times together as a family were after Supper Allen and his family would read scriptures from the Family Bible. After Bible Study Corene would get her guitar out and play southern gospel and old country songs with Allen and the children singing along with her. Saturday nights were for watching the Country Western Shows Porter Wagoner and the Wilburn Brothers and Corene always made homemade fudge and popcorn for the family. Allen Vandervoort was preceded in death by his Wife Corene Ward Vandervoort, Daughter Karen Alene Vandervoort Monk, and Son Jerry Allen Vandervoort. Also preceded in death by his parents Arthur (Van) Vandervoort and Luella Vandervoort Hail; Sisters Carol Vandervoort Grayson and Charlene Vandervoort McClung Shetter; Brothers Brenton Vandervoort, Donald (Donnie) Vandervoort, and Larey Vandervoort, Sr. Allen Vandervoort is survived by his children Donna Vandervoort Rogers of Cleburne, Texas; Linda Carol Vandervoort York of Fort Worth, Texas; Laurie Vandervoort Jaeger of Cleburne, Texas; Angela Vandervoort Beck of Cleburne, Texas; and Brenda Vandervoort Talley of Cleburne, Texas. Also survived by his brothers Duane Vandervoort of Whitney, Texas and Eddie Ray Vandervoort of Fort Worth, Texas along with 16 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. There will be a double memorial service for Allen Orlando Vandervoort and his late wife Corene Ward Vandervoort in November 2021 at the Westhill Church of Christ in Cleburne, Texas. Burial of remains will be at the Ridge Park Cemetery in Hillsboro, Texas.
