J. W. “Sandy” Briscoe, Jr. November 20, 1955 - October 15, 2021
J. W. Briscoe, Jr., affectionately known as “Sandy”, took his final rest on the morning of October 15, 2021, in Fort Worth, TX. He was 65.
Sandy was born on November 20, 1955, to the late Rev. J. W. and Helen Briscoe. A native of Fort Worth, Sandy attended Western Hills High School and Tarrant County College. At an early age, he accepted Christ as his Savior at Zion Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of the late Rev. J. W. Briscoe, Sr. While at Zion, Sandy served in many ministries, and enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Vacation Bible School.
Sandy loved all sports, but he was especially fond of basketball. Favorably known by his students as Coach Briscoe, Sandy worked as an educator and coach for the Fort Worth Independent School District for many years, before retiring in 2009. Sandy had a larger-than-life personality, and an infectious laugh. He was a great friend to many and a stranger to none.
Sandy is preceded in death by his son, J. W. Briscoe III; parents, Rev. J. W. and Mrs. Helen Briscoe; brother, Joe Blaine “Chuck” Johnson, and sister Joyce Cunningham; nephew, Brence Harris.
Left to cherish his memories are his daughters, Yava Briscoe, Tiffany Rogers-Salter and Janah Briscoe; granddaughters, Kaylen Moore, Laila Rogers, and Amiyah Moore; sisters Bettye Andrews (Lynn), and Barbara Faye Williams; nieces, Joycelyn Brown (Michael), and Lynnice Jackson (Mance); nephews, Lynn Andrews, Jr. and Terrence Harris; a host of great nieces and nephews, extended family, friends and students in the Fort Worth community.
