John Calvin “J.C.” Brown, 90, of Fort Worth and Amarillo, Texas, passed away on May 11, 2021. Memorial Service: 10:00 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021 in the Chapel of Christ Chapel Bible Church 3701 Birchman Ave., Fort Worth, TX. Dr. Ben McWilliams officiating. Burial will be a private ceremony for immediate family members only. Brown was born on November 30, 1930 in Goree, Texas to Harvey Alexander Brown and Annie Lee West. He attended Texas Wesleyan College in Fort Worth and was a graduate of the Advanced Management Program of Harvard University’s School of Business. He was a past Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the American National / Texas American Bank of Amarillo. At the time of his retirement, he was Executive Vice President of Team Bank in Fort Worth. His banking career began in 1950 at the Fort Worth National Bank and continued for 40 years. He was also a licensed Texas Realtor. Most recently he served as a chairman of the Tarrant County Appraisal Review Board. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in combat in Korea during the Korean War. Brown’s long list of civic activities were highlighted by the chairmanship of the Board of Metropolitan YMCA of Fort Worth, several positions with the United Way of both Fort Worth and Amarillo including General Campaign Director and Board President of Amarillo’s United Way. In Fort Worth he was a director of American Red Cross, Chamber of Commerce, Panther Boys Club, and All Saints Hospital. Additional activities in Amarillo included being on the boards of Boy Scouts of America, Amarillo Art Center, Amarillo Foundation for Health and Science Education, Chamber of Commerce, Amarillo Area Foundation and High Plains Baptist Hospital. Brown Received the Chi Rio Award from the YMCA which is awarded annually to select individuals from thousands of volunteers. The YMCA of metro Fort Worth also establishes an award in his name and in his honor which annually recognizes fund raising excellence in the Sustaining Campaign. J.C. was totally in love with his Lord, Jesus Christ, and was happiest when serving Him through his local church. Throughout his life, he was active in bible teaching and music activities in the churches he attended. He loved his family and was blessed to have been married to Jo Hinkle Brown, his sweetheart and life companion for 71 years. J.C. was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Iris Stevenson. Survivors: Wife, Nelda Jo; son, Paul Brown and wife Denise; daughter, Donna Wall; grandchildren, Ashton Wall and wife Lindsay, Nicole Brown; great grandchildren, Kaylea and Lainey Wall; sister, Betty Morris and husband Jim; and other loving relatives and dear friends. The family suggests memorials be made in John’s name to Union Gospel Mission in Fort Worth
