Obituary of Reather Mae Barrett

Reather Mae Roberts Barrett was born on March 6,1935 in Ennis, Texas of Ellis County to the parentage of Smith and Mary Hurnes Roberts. Her father affectionately nicknamed her "Doll Baby" because she was his precious doll. As a child her parents relocated to Fort Worth, Texas. She attended the Historic I. M. Terrell High School class of 1953. She later entered the John Peter Smith nursing program in 1958. In 1950 she married Billy Ray Dancer Sr. To this union five children were born Patricia Ann whom proceeded her in death, Billy Ray Jr.,Darnella, Eric and Cherlyn. On June 15,1963 she married the true love of her life Eldridge E. Barrett whom proceeded her in death. To this union a bouncing baby girl was born they would name her Sonia Kay. She began her career with Safeway retiring after 21 years of service as a deli manager. Her culinary skills were top notch and her customers truly enjoyed her cooking. She retired in 1987 when the company closed its doors in Texas. She then enjoyed taking care of her grandchildren and being your friendly neighborhood Avon representative. She was a member of the Worth Heights Senior Center where she enjoyed their many activities, especially bible study and being the music director. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a member of the " Steppin' Grannies" since it's inception in 2006. She performed in many dancing engagements with the Steppin' Grannies, the last of which was November of 2019. She professed her faith in the Lord at an early age at the Macedonia Baptist Church at its original location 908 Crawford St. The church relocated later to its current location in Morningside. In 1978 she United with Greater St. Mark Baptist Church under the leadership of her brother the late Reverend Roosevelt Roberts. In 1979 she United with the Glen Park Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member serving in various capacities until 2011. She was a part of the mission society, the choir and also a deaconess. In 2011 she United with Grace Tabernacle Baptist Church under Founder/ Pastor Roy E. Brackins. She faithfully attended Women's Ministry until her health failed. Reather Mae "Doll Baby" Barrett, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, May 28,2020 peacefully at her home. She was preceded in death by her parents Smith and Mary Hurnes-Roberts; brothers Willie Roberts, Melvin Roberts, Roosevelt Roberts, Ivory Roberts and Hayes Roberts; sister Christine Roberts-Burse; and daughter Patricia Ann Dancer. She leaves to cherish her precious memories; her children, Billy Ray Dancer Jr., Darnella Warren, Eric Dancer Sr. (Sylvia), Cherlyn Waters (Matthew) and Sonia Barrett; grandchildren, Coby Kindles, Chrishunda Andrews, Robert Murrell, Faith Warren, Tierra Warren, Erica Dancer, Eric Dancer Jr., Erin Dancer, Demarcus Dancer, Terica Dancer, Brence Walker, Don-Erik Walker, Corey Walker and Quintolyn "Chelle" Kirby; 31 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Helen Jenkins and Margarette Knox; Good friend for over eighty years Freddie Mae Jackson, Dorothy Nell and Bennie Ruth Dickens; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.
