Odell Johnson, Jr., 74, passed away Friday, May 8, 2020.
Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Thursday at Greater Friendly Temple Church of God in Christ, 1745 E. Davis Ave., Fort Worth, Texas 76104, Superintendent R.C. Williams, pastor.
Visitation: 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Martin Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 6009 Wedgwood Dr., Fort Worth, Texas 76133.
Interment: Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, Dallas, Texas.
Odell was born in Fairfield, Texas to the parentage of Ruth Tillman and Odell Johnson, Sr. and he was reared by his mother and stepfather, Ruth and Dexter Owens. He attended public school in Fairfield and was a graduate of the Dogan High School. He was a U.S. Air Force Veteran, and had earned an Associates Degree from TCJC, a former Fort Worth Police Officer (one of two first black recruits), a licensed Master Plumber, a retiree from Miller Brewery, and a Deacon and faithful member of the Greater Friendly Temple Church of God in Christ, under the leadership of Superintendent R.C. Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Idella McDaniel Johnson.
Left to cherish his precious memories are: His children, Pamela Jones (Travis), Paula Jester (Patrick), Odell Johnson III (Alisha), and Brian K. Johnson (Tiffany), all of Fort Worth, Texas; six sisters, Alice Walker of Fairfield, Texas, Catherine Owens of Denton, Texas, Dorothy Brown (Dexter), Annie Mae Owens, Debbie Jones, and Lena Mae Johnson all of Fairfield, Texas; two brothers, Willie James Fuller of Daytona Beach, Florida and Johnny Johnson of Houston, Texas; sister-in-law, Imogene Owens of Teague, Texas; grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Stephanie Jones, Patricia Smith (Jeremy), Paige Jester, Odell Johnson IV, Ava Johnson, Corey Harrison (Ashley), Minister Broderick Harrison, Brian Johnson, Jr., Amare "Buddy" Johnson, Christian Johnson, all of Fort Worth, Texas, and Nia Amani Hodges of Desoto, Texas; great grandchildren, Harlem Johnson, Jaylah, Maddison and Isaiah Smith, Dacoreyon, Christian and Chloe Harrison.
