Obituary of Gene L Morrison

Gene L. Morrison was born on May 24, 1933, in Stephenville, Texas and died on April 23, 2020, at Benbrook Nursing and Rehab, in Benbrook, Texas. He is survived by his younger brother Benny Morrison and wife Julia, as well as numerous extended family members. He was preceded in death by his wife, Charlene Morrison; son, Gene L. Morrison, Jr.; sister, Reba Thurman and three brothers: Robert, Roy and Dale Morrison.
Growing up in Stephenville and later moving to Fort Worth, Gene attended North Side HS where he played football and met the love of his life who would later become his wife of 60 years. Gene joined the US Marine Corp in 1954 serving in the Korean War and until his discharge in 1961. During his service in Korea he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. Gene attended Texas Wesleyan University graduating with a BA in Business Administration.
In 1970 Gene and Charlene had a beautiful baby boy...Gene, Jr. The son Gene always wanted. Tragically they lost their sweet son in an accidental drowning at their home on April 30, 2017.
Gene worked throughout his career in the grocery and trucking industry. He held management positions in the personnel departments until his retirement. After retirement he and his son operated a successful lawn service taking care of many commercial properties in Benbrook.
Gene was generous and loving man with a heart of gold. His family was always utmost in his life, providing and taking care of not only his immediate family but also those extended family members when ever there was a need. He held a special place in the hearts of his wife’s younger family members. Sharon, Glenda, Terry and Gary who all benefited from Gene’s ever willingness to “be there” or offer advice. Gene was a good man.
Thank you to Total Hospice and their staff. A “special thanks” to Zak who always had a special treat for Gene and to Gene’s Hospice aid Jo who was his very favorite person. Thank you to the staff at Benbrook Nursing and Rehab for their constant care; two staff members in particular always eager to help were Ginger and Rita. Last but not least thanks so much to Carol and Gabby for the many visits, pictures and puppy kisses that always brightened Gene’s days.
Due to current Covid-related limitations on social gatherings, a grave side service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local human society or no kill shelter or animal rescue or Veteran related organization.
