Carl Hellwege

Obituary of Carl Eugene Hellwege

Please share a memory of Carl to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carl Hellwege was born on July 16, 1955 to Paul and Marie Hellwege in Detroit, Michigan. Carl loved being part of a large family and enjoyed all of his brothers and sisters: Dave and Sharon Hellwege, Imogene Daniel Hellwege, Pauline and Tim Griffith, Josephine Edwards, Jerlene Mullins, and John Calloway. He had a special bond with his nephew Chris Glenon. Carl grew up in Detroit and received his undergraduate degree in Accounting from the University of Michigan. He then went on to get his MBA from Wayne University in Michigan. Carl had an amazingly strong work ethic and truly enjoyed working. His work for Verizon took him from Detroit to California to Texas, which he considered his true home. After he retired from Verizon, he started his Allstate agency from scratch and built it up successfully. His employees, Allstate friends, and customers are dear to him and many became close friends. In his spare time, Carl enjoyed watching movies, working out, reading, and spending time with his family. He was always involved in the activities of his children, Jamie and Paul. If you asked how his weekend was, he would likely start off talking about Jamie’s soccer game or Paul’s baseball game. Most recently, Carl took great pride in watching Jamie pursue her dream of become a doctor as she attends UT Austin, and was also extremely proud of Paul as he committed to the Air Force in a 6 year program and ships out for basic training the first week of May. Carl also attended Gateway Church in Southlake, Texas. As a strong Christian, Carl’s faith took priority in his life and he loved books with daily devotionals. Carl is survived by his loving wife, Kerstin, and precious children, Jamie and Paul, along with a host of relatives including siblings, nieces and nephews and, of course, friends. To say that Carl will be missed by everyone is the best understatement. Thankfully, his memory will live in the hearts of those who love him forever.
