Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
William (Bill) Francis Naughton of Fort Worth was born September 9, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri to Rosanna Gillespie and Patrick Joseph Naughton and passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the age of 90. Bill graduated from Redemptorist Catholic high school in Kansas City, where he met the love of his life, Beatrice (Betty) Larraine Renner, and recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this past November. He cherished Betty and his family dearly and will be missed. Bill and Betty were members of St. Bartholomew, St. Andrews and the Catholic retirement community of St. Francis village in Crowley, Texas. As a proud Marine, Bill served the country honorably, first in the National Guard (1948-1950) and during the Korean war as a Sergeant in the US Marine Corp (1951-1954). Before and after his service he worked 42 years at Continental Grain as a commodities broker in Kansas City and Fort Worth and as a manager of the Fort Worth grain terminal near Saginaw. In 1997, his cardiologist gave him 6 months to live, so Bill lived 24 years after that diagnosis just to prove the doctor wrong. Bill had a strong respect for authority from being taught by nuns, including a second year repeat of 5th grade, but he could also use his sense of humor, penchant for practical jokes and strong will to live life to the fullest. Bill enjoyed fishing, building birdhouses, shelling pecans, smoking a cigar and an afternoon cocktail. He enjoyed scenic drives on roads less travelled including visits to the Lake of the Ozarks, San Diego, Arizona, and his annual work-related surveys trips to view the wheat and sorghum crops. Most of all he loved spending quality time with his family of eight children, 12 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas, his sister Patricia and his parents. He is survived by his wife Betty; children: Peggy Fletcher, Susan Naughton, Daniel Naughton, Sarah and Phil Cloud, Amy and Tom Rogers, Patrick Naughton, Beth Naughton and Wayne Crosby, Matthew and Laurence Naughton-Furr; twelve Grandchildren; and three Great-grandsons. Interment will be at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery on Friday, February 21 at 9:00am. According to his wishes a private memorial service for immediate family is planned after.
