Mary Eileen Smith Eller passed away peacefully from Alzheimer’s disease on Thursday, February 13, 2020 in Fort Worth, Texas. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death. Born on November 1, 1928 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Harold & Anne Smith and sister to the late Harvey Smith and Ray Smith. Formerly of Hampstead, North Carolina, she is survived by her loving husband Harold Eller and adoring sons Doug (Lynne) of Ft. Worth, Texas, Greg (Ruth) of New Albany, Ohio and daughter in law Kathy (Ken) of Cary, North Carolina. Mary is also preceded in death by her beloved son Ken whom she joins in eternal peace. Mary was a wife, mother, grandmother, homemaker and friend to many. She was a den mother, driver’s education instructor, ice cream connoisseur, grilled cheese maker, and consummate mother and caregiver. She was also a world traveler alongside Harry visiting such places as Japan, Mexico, Europe, Venezuela, Brazil, Hawaii, and the British West Indies. She participated in many civic organizations and was an accomplished party hostess. Mary enjoyed watching football, basketball, golf, and playing bridge. She was an avid golfer as a 2 time club champion and scoring a hole in one at the Olde Point Country Club. She was involved for many years in various women’s golf associations in Arkansas and North Carolina, most recently serving as president of the ladies golf association in Old Point in 1997. Mary loved cooking and baking for family and friends and making people feel loved with a sweet treat and tender smile. She will be forever missed by her family and friends. Other surviving family members include 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who she loved and spoiled endlessly. Also surviving are many dear friends from communities in which she lived.
