Karen Lee Tolfree, of Lewisville, Texas passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2020 after a short battle with lung cancer. Karen was born to Gus and Mary Morthan on April 21, 1944 in New York City. She is the sister of Dawn Tanenbaum of NJ and John Morthanous of CT. She worked for the Yonkers Public Schools as an aide and a secretary for 25 years advancing through the civil service system. Karen loved to be at her home and in her backyard that she called "Karen's Castle" with her beloved pets, Charlie her Maltese and Chase her Laberdoole. Charlie and Chase have been re-homed with her daughter, Lee-Ann. She requested that any donations made in her memory are to the St. Jude's foundation. Survivors: Karen was the proud mother of five children, Tommy Tolfree and wife Joan Tolfree, Jill Smith and husband Chris Smith, Lee-Ann Tolfree Mertzlufft, Eric Tolfree, Ian Tolfree and wife Hajna Moss; grandmother of Casey Tolfree Dembowski, Jillian Mertzlufft, Jean-Luc Tolfree, Ana Mertzlufft, Denali Smith, McKinley Smith, Ariel Tolfree, Jackson Smith, Rowan Tolfree, Nyala Tolfree, Lilly Ann Mertzlufft; great-grandma to Hailey Dembowski; and her dear friend, Mike.
