Obituary of Ruth Elizabeth Dick
Please share a memory of Ruth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ruth Elizabeth Dick of Fort Worth, TX formerly of Battle Creek, MI passed away unexpectedly on December 29, 2019. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on April 6, 1942 to William and Margaret (Malcolm) Bestervelt. She graduated from Loy Norrix High School and Kalamazoo Valley Community College. She proudly served our nation in the Air Force and National Guard.
Ruth decided to move to Texas in 1985 after falling in love with the Lone Star State and climate while visiting her daughter. After getting settled, she worked at Harris Hospital in admissions for several years. Ruth was known as “G-Mama” to her grandchildren and “GiGi Mama” to her great-grandkids due to her cool and laid back personality. Ruth was known for being feisty along with sweet, funny, witty, and charming. North Padre Island was her “Happy Place” and would visit any time she could. She loved her family and cats dearly; and also enjoyed cross stitching with her “homies.” We will miss hearing her contagious laugh and saying that everything is “cool beans!” She was a great mother, grandma, friend, and traveling partner.
Surviving are daughters Molly (Gregg) Galbraith of Battle Creek,MI , Elizabeth (Mike) Winsor, of Grand Prairie, TX, brother, John (Jean) Bestervelt, of Galesburg, MI, sister Jean Roberts of Wilmington, DE. She had 5 grandkids, 3 great grandkids with two more on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Suzanne Pitcock, and her daughter, Jennifer (Dan) Billings. Dan is a son to her in every sense. When his bride passed, he had promised to take care of his buddy, G-Mama. He has gone above and beyond to take care of her and know that she loved you dearly!
A memorial will be held January 25th at 2pm, at Evergreen at Hulen Bend 6301 Granbury Cut Off, Ft. Worth, TX 76132.
