Obituary of Willie William Thomas

Please share a memory of Willie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Willie William Thomas, affectionately known as Uncle Sonny, was born to Frank Thomas and Evelyn Baker Thomas on October 15, 1922.

Memorial Service: 11 am Saturday, Martin Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 6009 Wedgwood Dr., Ft Worth.

Willie spent most of his life in Clearview, Oklahoma, cared for by his sister Ella. Willie enjoyed the dirt roads and various fishing holes that Clearview had to offer. During his time in Clearview, he made many friends and people could always depend on him and they enjoyed being with him over the years. He enjoyed going to the African-American rodeo and he got a special kick out of taking his nephews to these events.  Willie was very expressive and you could understand him just by being around him for a short period of time. Clearview was always in his heart. In 1992, Uncle Sonny moved to Fort Worth, Texas to be with his loving sister, Winnie. The special bond between these two was evident any time you saw them together. They would explore the different malls and movie theaters and Uncle Sonny would delight in what he saw on the screen. They both shared a joy in wrestling and old movies. Uncle Sonny could also be quite mischievous with the pranks that he would play on his sister. He had a special place in his heart for his nephews Frank, Larry, Michael and Anthony.  He was always ready to go for a ride, it didn't matter where, he just liked to be out. He delighted in watching his great-nieces Amber, Megan, and Dakota growing up and was always happy to see them and enjoy their company. He would also tell his sister if they were picking on Dakota too much. He liked to sing, especially Gospel and work on his beads for hours. He enjoyed wearing hats, cigars and pipes.  He loved eating chicken and having a cold beer.  As we close this chapter of his life, let’s reflect on what Uncle Sonny brought to our lives – his spirit and willingness to live. His voice was always heard and his laughter a blessing.

Uncle Sonny was preceded in passing by his parents, Frank and Evelyn Thomas, his sisters ZethaRay, Jesselle, Reaver, Esther and Ella.  He leaves to celebrate his life and mourn his passing his sister Winnie Julia Thomas Board, nephew Michael Board (Debra) and Anthony Board, and a host of other nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, great great great nieces and nephews and a number of friends.

We would also like to thank his primary care physician and his physician’s assistant in the office of Dr. Quang Le and the staff with Palliative Care.
