It was always a pleasure to see Harry at FWAS gatherings. He was gracious when sharing his encyclopedic knowledge, and he did it with an abundance of wit that was sure to bring a smile to anyone who was lucky enough to be within earshot of him. He was one of the first people I met at the club, and I've always mentally associated the two as synonymous... I don't see that ever changing. Harry will be missed, but never forgotten.

Many years ago I met Harry at the Fort Worth Astronomical Society and was immediately struck by his friendliness, helpfulness and sense of humor. He was respected and loved and represented the soul of our group. The sense of loss I feel speaks to the quality of this special man.

Harry was my best friend when we were Freshmen in college. I remember illicitly exploring the service tunnels under the Texas Tech campus with him -- it was a lot of fun. As others have noted, his sense of humor set him apart.
Kelly, I haven't seen you since you were a toddler, but you have Marla and my sincere condolences. You don't need me to tell you what a great guy your Dad was. He will be missed.

Dear Kelly,
I know there are not words that can comfort you after the loss of your Dad. As a dear friend told me when I lost my dad, "With time you get use to, but you never get over a person you love." However, you realize they still leave in your heart, in all the memories you made together, and you even feel them close to you when you think of them. Sending all our love to you! The Bushnell Family (Andy, Gina, George, and Drew).

Kelly, I'm so sorry about your Papa. We had a LOT of fun over the years. He was one of the few persons I enjoyed knowing that was a more silly, sarcastic smartass than me! And off-the-scale smart. I wrote a little about him to the Fort Worth Astronomical Society and posted pictures I had of him over the years, which I believe Trista has forwarded or will forward to you. I'll be there this coming Monday. Just remember that it's the first year that's the hardest. One trip around the Sun, all the birthdays, holidays, anniversaries, everything has to parade by without him. Then it gets a little easier. I lost my Dad when I was 29, so I know. You never forget him but you do manage to get by in life. See you Monday. Take care, Mike

My deepest condolences.
I only got to meet Harry relatively recently, but I quickly recognized a kindred spirit who wasn't shy about sharing his astronomy adventures. I enjoyed the conversations.

Harry was a friend and a mentor. I enjoyed spending time learning so much from this man. His sense of humor made me feel that even the smartest people can act a little goofy sometimes. He will be missed very much.

I am so sorry to hear this news. Worked with Harry in the 90’s at Zadall and again in early 2000’s at PDX. Harry was a great guy, loved his sense of humor. Like the time he gave me chocolate covered espresso beans with out me knowing what they were. Hour later I was litterly bouncing off the walls. Harry came to my office to check in to see how I was. We both had a great laugh at that.

Words cannot express my sorrow, so I will share a verse from one of my favorite poems by Sarah Williams:
“Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light;
I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.”
May God mercifully guide you on your way amongst the stars.
