Obituary of James "Tommy" Thomas Gordon

James Thomas “Tommy” Gordon died peacefully, surrounded by family at Texas Health Resources Hospital in Fort Worth on May 11, 2026.

A celebration of his life will take place on Saturday, May 30 at 3:00 pm at Glenview Church, 4805 NE Loop 820, with Rev. Michael Hardaway officiating.  Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Tommy was born to Loyce and Edna Gordon on February 21, 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas.  He earned a degree in geology from Texas Christian University before serving his country for four years in the Army and four additional years in the Air Force National Reserve.  He met Penny, the love of his life, and they were married in 1990.

Tommy was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter, Gennifer Gordon Tokheim, and his brother, Paul Gordon. 

He is survived by his beloved wife of thirty-six years, Penny; sons, Greg Gordon and wife Elva, Robert L. Smith and wife Kally; son-in-law Howard Tokheim; five grandchildren: Kaylee Williams, Zachary Gordon, Alan Tokheim, Trinity Smith and Orlando “Orry” Smith, and two great grandchildren: Ryder and Decker Williams.  He is also survived by his brother, Jack Gordon and wife Johnice, several nieces and nephews as well as a host of great friends.

Tommy enjoyed traveling, reading and a good John Wayne movie, but his favorite thing was time spent with the people he loved. Tommy was a very kind and gentle soul and was deeply loved by everyone who knew him.  

He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
