Obituary of George Richard Roberts
George Roberts passed away peacefully at home on February 26, 2026, at the age of 80.
George was a happy, easygoing, and interesting man who always made time for a good laugh and good company. He loved being around friends and family—whether it was traveling, antiquing, watching football, working on a project, or spending time together at the Flying Saucer. Wherever George was, there was always a sense of warmth and fun.
Born on November 14, 1945, to James and Mary Roberts, George grew up in a military family, living in Alaska, Texas and Illinois. After graduating from Texas A&M University, he served in the United States Air Force as a reconnaissance pilot and navigator for fourteen years during the Vietnam War and the Cold War.
In 1968, George met Sally while he was attending a training class in Sacramento. They married and lived in Austin, then Big Spring where they welcomed their daughter, Rachel. They moved on to Mountain Home, Idaho and he finished his military career at Lakenheath, England.
After his discharge, they settled in Elk Grove, California, to be near Sally’s family. He worked as an aerospace engineer for General Dynamics at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento. He continued his aerospace career in Fort Worth, Texas at Lockheed Martin.
George is survived by his daughter Rachel, granddaughter Claire, siblings Sandra Herrington and Michael Roberts, and is preceded in death by his older brother James Roberts. There are many friends and extended family who will miss him dearly.
He will be remembered for his quirky sense of humor, his willingness to help, and the kindness he showed to others, as well as the way he made everyday moments feel special.
