Obituary of Christine Tubbs
Christene (Watt) Tubbs was born on Thursday, July 31, 1934 in Van Zandt County, Texas. She would emerge as the fourth daughter born to Ms. Lucille Bateman. Christene made her exit into eternity on Monday, March 23, 2026 at the age of 91.
Christene would spend most of her childhood in Henderson, Texas, where she received the majority of her education. Christene transitioned from Watt to Tubbs in the year of 1950. She later migrated her family to North Texas, and settled in Fort Worth in the late 1960s.
Christene worked in household management in both the public and private sector. She spent her later years exploring her entrepreneur spirit by owning and operating her own daycare. As a result, she affectionately became known as “Big Mama” by those she loved and cared for.
Christene had a smile so big and beautiful that it could not be contained. This is part to having received The Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior at an early age. Christene’s belief and faith was instilled by her mother; she learned to always carry the cross and rely on her faith daily.
As a result, Christene gratefully passed her teachings of faith to those she cherished and loved most, her family. And by doing so, her home remained the hub that kept the family together. Christene was a devoted mother of 8 and a committed grandmother to many. Her front door remained open; she never turned anyone away. Christene displayed an ocular demonstration of her unwavering love for family through the meals she prepared, the cakes she baked, wisdom she shared, and by single-handedly caring for her mother in her home until her time stamp of eternality was revealed.
Christene was preceded in death by her long-time spouse Johnny Cecil Tubbs (1986), her mother Lucille Bateman (1988), her brother Sammy Joe Ramey (2002), her sisters Grace Watt (1922), Artilia Franklin Ramey (1967), Maybell Franklin Cooks (2025), and eldest grandchild/son Edwon Tubbs (2025).
Christene “Big Mama” leaves to cherish her precious memories: her children Janet Ann, Cecil Ray, Linda Faye, Billy Joe, Carolyn Jean (Andrew), Bobby Jean, Eddie Joe, Ruth Ann, step-children, a host of grand-children, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other beloved relatives and close family friends.
