Obituary of Bennie Earl Blockwood

Please share a memory of Bennie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bennie Earl Blockwood was born February 23, 1950, to Benjamin F. Blockwood and Clovice Haley in Lake Providence, Louisiana, the eldest son of four children. He passed peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, after a long battle with multiple health issues.

He accepted Christ at an early age. After spending his formative years in Lake Providence, Bennie graduated from Scotlandville Magnet High School in Baton Rouge.

He attended Southern University while working alongside his father as a concrete contractor.

He moved to Texas in 1969 where he worked in construction with his cousin Sam Jones before later starting his business, Bennie Blockwood Concrete Construction.

Bennie loved his family with the love we are taught as children – love for all as we are loved.  For him, there were no half siblings or step siblings, no cousins twice-removed, related-by-marriage, or exes and ex-family members.  It was just FAMILY.  And if you were fortunate enough to become his friend, you instantly became family as well.

Bennie was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James “Stoney” Washington, Jr., Isiah “Monk” Anderson, Sr., Elmer Blockwood; sister, Mary Ann Haley; and daughter, Brandy Blockwood.

Amongst those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Faye; his daughters, Rosa Blockwood (Domas), and Christie Blockwood-Demus (Cedric) both of Grand Prairie, TX; step-daughter, Deborah Thompson (SJ); step-son, Charles “Chuck” Chance, Jr., (Terri), both of Houston, TX; granddaughters, DaMeisha Fields, Hope McDaniel, Joy McDaniel, Courtney Chance; grandsons, Dante Fields, Cameron Chance (Tanaya), Sterling Thompson, Daazman Thompson; five great-grandchildren; brothers, Roosevelt Dyer, James Blockwood Sr, (Maggie), and Benjamin Miller (Rosa); sisters, Gwendolyn Haley, Evette Washington, Loraine “Frankie” Haynes, Renee Blockwood Jones, and Carolyn Washington Womack. There is a wonderful host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and many more family and friends who loved him dearly.  A special mention is for nephews and nieces, he was instrumental in helping to raise, Eric Jones, Erika Haley, Isiah “Bo” Anderson Jr, Dr. Melissa Glass; and a special “Good Girl” to his beloved Beagle Bella.
