I stumbled across Mike's obit and am very sad to read this news. I haven't spoken to Mike in many years, but we worked together at Highside Capital for seven years starting in 2005. As the grey-haired sage of our team, Mike was the embodiment of integrity, ensuring Highside stayed true to its name—always on the "high side" of ethics and conduct. His example was good guidance for the team.
I’ll never forget the time, as a young, snot-nosed analyst, I arrogantly dismissed timeshares, questioning why anyone would purchase one. Mike, with his characteristic calm, looked at me and said, “You know, Kyle, I own one, and they’re great!” The room erupted in laughter, a gentle jab that left me humbled. That moment didn’t just lighten the mood—it sparked curiosity, leading to a successful investment in a timeshare company by our firm.
Our conversations about commodities like silver and gold were good memories I have of him. Mike’s wisdom, patience, and kindness shone through in every discussion, whether about markets or life. He was more than a colleague; he was a mentor who shaped us with his steady guidance and infectious warmth.
Thank you, Mike, for your wisdom, your example, and the laughter you brought to our days. You will be deeply missed!
