Obituary of Stephen Jay Covey

Stephen Jay Covey, age 72, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away on April 21, 2025. He is remembered by those who knew him for his unique personality, his strong will, and the life he lived on his own terms.

Born on September 1, 1952, Stephen was the son of the late Emma Joe Watson-Smith and David Woodard Covey Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife, Denise Covey; his brother, David Woodard Covey Jr.; his brother Layton Covey; and his sister Dodie.

Stephen is survived by his daughter, Sheila Woods, and her husband, Johnny Woods; his stepdaughter, Lara Wankan; his grandchildren, Cheyenne Woods, Brandon Covey, and Kristian Woods; and his great-grandchildren, Ian Covey and Asheton Covey.

Stephen’s life was marked by his independence and his ability to face life’s challenges in his own way. His memory lives on in the stories shared by those who knew him, and in the lives of his children and grandchildren.
