Obituary of Eudora Bernard
Eudora Teresa Bernard was born on July 3, 1940 in Colon, Republic of Panama, to Richard and Clarice Toppin. She was the first of eight children. Eudora took on many duties as the eldest, which she performed with grace and diligence. She graduated from Colegio Abel Bravo in 1958 and started attending the University of Panama where she obtained a degree in Education and Professorship which would enable her to become an educator, a profession she cherished deeply.
She met and married Mr. Rodric Bernard in 1966 and to this union her only child was born, Damalia Wilson in 1968. She was a wonderful and devoted mother. She took a job as a substitute teacher within the Panama Canal where she worked for 10 years until she transitioned to teach for the national education system. Eudora made her home here, teaching, guiding, and encouraging fifth and sixth graders for 26 years.
Eudora liked to bake and was an avid cake decorator. She loved to create a welcoming home for her family and was very meticulous with her cooking and cleanliness. Eudora had a devout relationship with Christ and with her church, First Isthmian Baptist Church, where she was a member for many years.
Eudora leaves four grandchildren, Jonathan, Christina, Maricella and Camille. She loved and cherished their times together. She also had one great-granddaughter, Sailor. Eudora and Rodric left Panama to reside with their daughter Damalia in 2013, a long last dream that was realized for her. Eudora embraced her new life with her husband and enjoyed adventures and trips.
Eudora was preceded in death by her parents and brothers and sisters. She is survived by her daughter Damalia Wilson, and son-in-law Kenneth Wilson. Grandchildren, great grandchildren, Sister - Eneida Gilder and brother-in-law Louis Gilder, nieces - Graciela, Imelda, Liduvina and several great nephews and nieces.
Although our hearts are heavy, we rest in the promise that she has transitioned to Glory and is in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ where there is no more suffering – only rejoicing.
