Obituary of Godfrey Thompson

Godfrey Thompson was born on July 17, 1936, in Foreston, Texas, to the late Ezekiel and Wilma Thompson. He received his education through the Fort Worth Public Schools and from an early age, began building a life rooted in hard work, dedication, and love for his family.  On April 28, 1976, Godfrey married the love of his life, Joyce Marie Gray. Their union was a true partnership, blessed with 40 years of marriage and two sons, Christopher Jefferson and Jason Thompson. In addition, Godfrey was a proud father to Sheila Newton, Dorothy Newton, and Godfrey Thompson Jr.

A man of many skills, Godfrey began working at a young age, learning various trades before joining the Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD), where he worked for 15 years. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish GT Trucking (Godfrey Thompson Trucking), a business he successfully ran for 40 years before retiring in 2022. 

Godfrey was a devoted father, a beloved grandfather, and a respected figure in his community. He is survived by his children: Christopher Jefferson, Jason Thompson, Sheila Newton, and Dorothy Newton; his loving sisters: James Etta Giles, Eva Mae Graham, and Shirley Stanley; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Joyce Gray Thompson; his sister, Faytrice Thompson; his brothers: Maurice Sanders, Freddie Lee Thompson, Ernest Thompson, and Will Joe Thompson; and two grandsons, Romand and Joedell Newton.       

Godfrey’s legacy of strength, dedication, and love will live on through all who knew and loved him.
