Bessie was my former landlord and friend for many years. I feel so blessed to have been a part of her life. She was so sweet and caring and welcomed me into her home with open arms and would always say my visit was too short. Bessie loved picking pecans so I took her to a pecan orchard in Arlington a few times, she was so excited to see all the pecan trees, we picked pecans for hours and brought a ton of pecans home, she had so much energy, she was around 90 at the time. On one of our adventures she brought her extension pole to knock the ripe pecans off the trees but when we were ready to leave the pole got stuck and we were not able to shorten it to put back in my tiny car so we had to leave it behind the bushes hoping it would still be there the next weekend we came back. The next time we drove her big car, it didn’t quite fit so the pole was sticking out the window and Bessie holding on to it as we drove home. Bessie was one of a kind and will cherish her memory forever.

What a precious gift to have known Bessie almost 30 years. She was first my landlord, quickly became a dear friend and I soon considered her my TX mom. So many memories of dinners together, tea parties, trips to garden centers and special visits with lots of laughter. She embraced life to the fullest and served and loved on her family and friends til the end. I dearly loved her and will miss her so much!
