
Obituary of James Leonard Morrison
James "Jim" Morrison, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully at his home in Weatherford, Texas, with his wife by his side on March 16, 2025, at the age of 72. Born on May 17, 1952, to Leonard and Norma (Jackson) Morrison in Fulton, Missouri, Jim lived a life full of adventure, love, and dedication to his family and passions.
Jim is survived by his wife, Barbara Baker-Morrison; his daughter, Melissa Morrison-Reyes and son-in-law, Josh of La Jolla, California; and his stepchildren: Sonny and Alice Dack of Lantana, Texas, and Brendon and Michelle Moore of Fort Worth, Texas. He was a proud grandfather to Olivia, Madeline, Henry, and Charlie Morrison-Reyes, Emma Dack, and Irelynne and Bennett Moore. His grandchildren brought immense joy to his life. Jim was preceded in death by his son Kevin, his parents, Leonard and Norma Morrison, and his brother George, whose memories he held close to his heart.
A lifelong enthusiast of the great outdoors, Jim grew up on a farm in Mokane, Missouri, where he learned to hunt, fish, garden, and search for and collect Indian arrowheads. As an adult, he loved cooking, golfing, hunting, and fishing, often sharing these cherished pastimes with his family and friends. His love for nature was matched only by his love for travel, as he and his loved ones explored countless destinations, creating memories that will be treasured forever.
Jim graduated from Mokane High School, attended two years of college at the University of Central Missouri, and became an engineer. He dedicated 31 years to the Katy Railroad, retiring from the Union Pacific Railroad, where he made many beloved friends.
Jim will be remembered for his kind spirit, unwavering love for his family, and the legacy of adventure and resilience he leaves behind. A celebration of his life will be held on June 7, 2025, at Dennis, Kansas.
