
Obituary of Mira Kirk Nelson
Mira Kirk Pace Nelson passed away on February 5, 2025, in McKinney, Texas. She was born April 16, 1935, in Brighton, Colorado to Hartsel Wesley Pace and Mazie Fern Mosier Pace.
Funeral services will be held at South Hills Christian Church, 3200 Bilglade Road, Fort Worth, Texas on February 16, 2025, at 1:30 P.M. Burial will be February 17, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at the Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.
Mira graduated East High School in Denver, Colorado, in 1952. She attended the University of Colorado graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing in 1966 and later that year became a Registered Nurse. Mira continued her education receiving a Master’s Degree in Nursing in 1969 and Doctor of Education Degree in 1985.
Mira’s early career was as a school nurse. She later became an Assistant Professor and taught nursing at the University of Tulsa and at Texas Christian University. In later years, Mira worked for the Texas Department of Health.
On December 30, 1966, Mira married Nick Joe Nelson. Mira had two children from a prior marriage, Daniel Thomas (deceased) and Connie Marie. Nick had two daughters from a prior marriage, Frances Elaine (deceased) and Pamela Kay.
Mira had a strong faith. She and Nick attended South Hills Christian Church in Fort Worth, Texas. Mira enjoyed singing in the choir, volunteering, and participating in various women’s fellowship groups.
Mira loved to sew! It was one of her lifelong passions along with knitting. She was taught both as a young girl by her mother, Mazie. Mira also loved quilting and made and gave away many beautiful quilts over the years.
Mira and Nick were avid genealogists. They traveled across the U.S, to courthouses, cemeteries and museums tracing the backgrounds and origins of their families. Mira and Nick also went on many other trips traveling to various parts of the world.
Mira was preceded in death by her husband Nick, her son, Daniel Thomas, her daughter, Frances Elaine, her brother, Dwight Pace and Dwight’s son, Michael Pace.
She is survived by her daughters, Connie Marie Ward of McKinney, Texas, and Pamela Kay Gonce of Amarillo, Texas, a niece, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many friends.
