Obituary of Daniel Dupree Deaver

It is with deep sadness that we share the news that Danny Deaver passed away on January 23, 2025 in Fort Worth. No doubt he would have had something wry and funny to say about that, but he leaves a gap in the hearts and memories of his family and friends.

Daniel Dupree Deaver was born June 26,1956 to William and Mary Scott Deaver in Fort Worth, Texas. He lived in Texas all his life, mostly in Fort Worth where he graduated from Paschal High School. He earned a degree from Southwest University in Georgetown Texas in 1980. He was a member of the St. Stephen Presbyterian Church.

Danny made friends wherever he was with his generosity, openheartedness and humor, and the collection of people who loved him was large and varied. He was funny, warm and personable, a friend to just about everyone, whose infectious enthusiasm and open heart and open mind endeared him to all kinds of people. And, it might be said, to animals too, as Danny had a gifted way with all sorts of animals, especially dogs and horses, and spent a great deal of his time with them.

Everyone who remembers Danny will remember moments of laughter and affection, and for most of us, moments of genuine intellectual engagement too. Danny had a lively curiosity and a wide range of interests. He could talk to anybody about anything. He accepted everyone he met, and did not judge anyone, as he said, “on account of that glass houses thing.” He made people feel at home with him instantly, and always was quick with a joke or a lighthearted take even on hard things.

Danny was an accomplished distance runner, with more than a dozen marathons under his belt including the Boston Marathon, which he ran in 2002 in a time of 3:07. He was also a talented amateur artist, particularly with wood carving.

He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother Scott and his sister, Catherine Gollahon and brother-in-law Rick Gollahon, and by his nephew and nieces Will Deaver and Kate and Emily Gollahon. And by many, many friends who will miss him and remember him with a smile.
