Obituary of Samuel Hernandez

Samuel Hernandez died on January 16th, 2025, after a short battle with cancer. Sam was born in Dallas, Texas, on June 5th, 1955, to Julia Duque Hernandez and B. Hernandez. He moved to Fort Worth in 1972 and married Patricia (Patsy) Hernandez on May 29th, 1973.

Samuel is survived by his wife of 51 years, Patricia (Patsy) Hernandez; sisters Gloria Cipriano, Rosalinda Duque and husband Javier Manriquez, and Sonja Gale Hernandez; brother Elfonso Hernandez; brothers-in-law Jimmy Valle, Nick Valle, and Tina Valle; sister-in-law Diane Valle O'Connor; and his beloved cat, Samson. He is also survived by numerous nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Max and Samuel John Hernandez; his mother, Julia Duque Hernandez; brothers Richard Duque Hernandez, and Bony Hernandez Jr.; his sister, Stella Hernandez; in-laws John and Irene Valle; his aunt, Virginia Valle (his "adopted mother"); and brothers-in-law John Valle III, Larry Cipriano, and Brian O'Connor. He was also preceded in death by his great sister-friend, Gloria M. Chairez.

Samuel was the owner of PJS Tacos and BBQ and served at JJ Blues Bar on the Patio, Black Dog Tavern, Embargo, and Chat Room Pub. He retired from Mulholland Imprints and worked at the Fort Worth Stock Show for 17 years for Coburn's Catering.

A die-hard Cowboys fan, Samuel always said he "bled blue." He loved playing pool, especially at the Chat Room Pub, where he made many friends. He also enjoyed playing blackjack in Shreveport and Bossier. Samuel was a devoted husband, kind, considerate, thoughtful, and loyal. He was my best friend. He always kept a little money in his pocket to help those in need and took care of the community cats, always ensuring they had food and shelter. He will be missed.
