Obituary of Edgar Carl Shelley
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Edgar Carl Shelley, known to everyone as “Rusty”, who left us peacefully on November 24,2024, at the age of 69. He was a dedicated and hardworking man known for his love, strength and laugh.
Rusty was born on December 5, 1954, in Dallas, Texas, to E.C. “Red” Shelley and Nila Ruth Airheart Shelley.
Rusty was a pillar of his family, always putting the needs of others before his own. He was a devoted husband to Donna and a loving father to Brooke, Amy, Frank, Shane and Gus. His commitment to his family and his work were remarkable, as he balanced both with determination.
Throughout his life, Rusty worked tirelessly as a Field Service Mechanic, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and friends alike. His work ethic and dedication were a reflection of the values he held dear.
Outside of his professional life, Rusty was a man who cherished the simple pleasures of life like spending time with his family. His presence was a source of comfort and joy to all who knew him.
Rusty was survived by his wife Donna, daughter Brooke Reed and husband Robert Reed, daughter Amy Tutt and husband Robert Tutt, son Frank Atherton and wife Sarah Atherton, son Shane Atherton,15 grandchildren, his sister Barbara Owen and brother Bill Shelley and wife Pam Shelley. He was preceded in death by his parents E.C. and Ruth Shelley and son Augustus “Gus” Atherton.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and many friends. His legacy of love, hard work and selflessness will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Rusty’s life will be held on December 14, 2024, at 11am, at Oak Tree Baptist Church of Pooleville.
