Obituary of Florence Ann Ionta

Florence A. Ionta (née Antonaccio) of Mount Vernon passed away peacefully on March 24, 2024. She was born in Mount Vernon to the late Frank and Elizabeth Antonaccio. Florence was the beloved wife of the late Nicholas Ionta. She is predeceased by her siblings; Marion, Jack, Frank, Raymond and Albert and granddaughter Stephanie. Florence is survived by her sons; Nicholas and his wife Laura, Vincent and his wife Jarean, and Christopher and his wife Sherry; her grandchildren; Jennifer, River, Nicholas, Anthony, and a great grandson Adrian.

Florence was a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration since childhood. She attended Our Lady of Victory Business School and worked in New York City at McCalls. Florence was an avid roller and ice skater. She met her husband Nick at the Mount Vernon Roller Skating Arena. Florence, known to many as Flo, was well known in the community as a Mount Vernon Fireman’s wife and Fire Department supporter, Westchester County Burn Center fund raising supporter, Italian Civic Assoc supporter, Our Lady of Victory Church event volunteer, Saint Ursula’s Italian Club, Altar Rosary Society, and Boy Scout leader. She was a Mount Vernon resident for over 80 years. Florence moved to Texas later in life where she resided until her death. She was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Funeral Mass will be held on April 27, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., Our Lady of Victory Church, 28 W. Sidney Avenue, Mount Vernon, New York 10550

She will be interred at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York; Section 17, Plot 115, Grave #20
