Obituary of Carolyn Dortch
Carolyn Jean Gosdin Dortch was born in Gilmer, Texas on October 18, 1946, to Jewel William and Thelma Roselene DeSpain Gosdin. She was at home with loved ones when she went to rest in the arms of our Lord on September 13, 2023.
Carolyn grew up in Pritchett, Texas before moving to Colleyville to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Preston Arrington. She began working as a secretary at LTV, and it is there that she met her husband of fifty five years, Jack Dortch. They were married in 1968, and had one daughter, Sonya. Carolyn and Jack first lived in Arlington before moving to Colleyville. They spent the last fifty plus years in Colleyville and Bedford, but enjoyed traveling to numerous states.
Carolyn loved God and she adored her family. She had a big, infectious and mischievous personality and was not afraid to speak her mind. She was vivacious and vibrant, and LIVED life. She was a doting “mama” to her two granddaughters, Ashli and Kaela. She loved animals of all kinds and provided a home to too many to name. Her “sweet baby boy” Tex was her last animal companion and was by her side until her passing. She was a deeply loyal friend, a caring woman who was somehow able to sense when others needed comfort or encouragement, and she was happy to oblige. She was the life of the party and brought joy and laughter to those who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an unnamed sibling; brothers Maurice, John, Calvin and James Gosdin; sisters Jean Arrington and Joyce Mask; and her former son-in-law, John Towry.
She is survived by her husband, Jack Dortch; her daughter, Sonya Towry; her granddaughters Ashli and Kaela Towry; her sister and brother-in-law Shirley and Terry Rutledge; and numerous nieces and nephews.
