Obituary of Gene D Gierhart

Gene Doyle Gierhart was born to Lew Andrew Gierhart and Ruby Thompson Gierhart on September 23, 1926 in Wanette, Oklahoma and passed away in Fort Worth, Texas on June 15, 2022, at the age of 95.  He graduated from Shawnee High School in 1944 and was drafted by the army shortly after he turned 18 years old. He defended our country in Austria and Germany and returned home after two years of service to start his family and his education. He began studying at Oklahoma Baptist University then he received his teaching degree from East Central University, in Ada, Oklahoma. After graduating with his teaching degree, he earned his Master’s in Education from the University of Oklahoma. He initially began teaching in the city of Rye, Colorado and worked several years there before deciding to return to Oklahoma and teach in Prairie Valley, Oklahoma for a few years. Eventually, he returned to Colorado to teach at Pleasant View Middle School for 5 years. In 1962, Gene was promoted to principal of a school in Beulah, Colorado and in 1970, he was transferred to Excelsior Middle School. In the early 1980’s, he was asked to take over Boone Elementary and finish his teaching career at two schools. Finally, he retired in 1987. During his teaching career, he received many awards for coaching, teaching, and being a great principal.

Gene adored his wife Glatis and they were married for 64 years. He also loved his children, their spouses his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Apart from being a great mathematician and coach, Gene loved carpentry and doing anything to improve his beautiful home. In the 1960’s, he took on the project of renovating an old cabin he purchased for his family in Beulah, making it a beautiful and wonderful family retreat. He was always doing things to improve his home; even in his last days, he was trying to fix a sprinkler head at his home in Fort Worth.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister, and his wife Glatis. He is survived by his children: Charles Gierhart, Mickey and Ana Marie Gierhart, Marquetta and Bob Moulton and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a great-great-granddaughter.
