Horace Lee (H.L.) “Corkey” Stewart, 89, a retired dentist, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, November 16, 2016, in Fort Worth after suffering a stroke this past October. Visitation: Monday, November 21, 2016, 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Martin Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 6009 Wedgwood Drive, Fort Worth, TX 76133. Burial: Private Memorials: Union Gospel Mission, 1321 E. Lancaster Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76102 or Tarrant Area Food Bank, 2600 Cullen Street, Fort Worth, TX 76107. Dr. Horace Lee “Corkey” Stewart was born September 1, 1927 in Crowley, Texas on the family farm. He was the son of Letha Mae and Reed Stewart, a former Tarrant County Tax Assessor Collector for 36 years. “Corkey” excelled in sports at Paschal High School. He was an all-district end in football and captain of the team. He was a member of the Championship Track Sprint Relay Team as well as an all-district guard and captain of Coach Charlie Turner's 1945 State Championship Basketball Team. He served in the Army in Stuttgart, Germany for 2 years. He graduated with honors from Texas Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He went on to earn a DDS from Baylor College of Dentistry in 1954, where he received the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Award for Oral Surgery. He retired from dentistry in 2008 after 54 years of practice. In the late 1980's, “Corkey” started Texas Denture Clinic which is still an active practice and continues his legacy of service to the community. He was an avid hunter, trap and skeet shooter, fisherman and golfer, and loved sports, camping and hunting at the Yellow Horse Ranch in Meeker, Colorado and spending time at his deer lease in Bluffdale, Texas. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Letha Mae Stewart and Reed Stewart, and brother Reed Stewart, Jr. Survivors: Wife, Judith Lynn Stewart; son, Christopher Lee Stewart and wife Vicky of Fort Worth; two stepdaughters, Tanya Michelle Troutman of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Mindy Renee Stanley and husband Rex of Granbury; nephew, Thomas E. Stewart of Parker County; niece, Kelle Ann Suarez and husbandJimmy of Fort Worth; grandchildren; Waverlee Nicole Williams and husband J.C. Williams of Fort Worth, Brandon Curtner Stewart and wife Audrey of Fort Worth, great grandchildren; James Cecil Williams, IV, Hunter David Williams of Fort Worth and Devyn Alaina Macie and Rosemary June Stanley of Granbury and “Corkey's” faithful friend and dog, Sadie. The family would like to thank all the doctors, nurses and helpers that took care of “Corkey”
